Mixing pigments to make red paint?

My boyfriend decided to repaint his apartment and since he had two gallons of white paint left over from a previous job he thought he could save some money by buying pigments and making the color himself. The problem is he wants to paint his room red. He bought two red pigments and added it to a gallon of white which left him with a nice shade of pepto-bismol pink. Is there anything he can do to achieve a red color. More red pigments? Adding other colors? If anyone can help I would really appreciate it!
