What might be wrong with my friend?

one of my good friends is having a stomach problem right now. he said his stomach feels bubbly (mostly on one side) and it hurts when he moves and lays down. his exact word was majorly. he also feels bloated and maybe a little nausea. and he doesn't really feel like eating. maybe a small meal a day. he said burping makes him feel better. i thought maybe tums or pepto would help. now it sounds like he has gas to me. i told him to try some gas pills. he won't try anything. yet he complains about it.
